Surrey: A youth from Punjab’s Barnala district has died in Surrey, Canada, reportedly due to a silent heart attack. The deceased has been identified as Baltej, a resident of village Chhiniwal. He was the only son of his parents.
Following his death, his father Jagtar Singh and mother Rupinder Kaur are inconsolable. The family is facing major difficulties in bringing Baltej’s mortal remains back to India.
According to the family, completing documentation and repatriating the body from Canada will cost around 40,000 Canadian dollars, which is approximately ₹25–27 lakh. Given the family’s weak financial condition, arranging such a large amount on their own has become a serious challenge.
In view of the situation, various religious and social organisations across the district have appealed to the public for financial assistance. Their aim is to ensure that Baltej’s body is brought back to village Chhiniwal at the earliest so that his grieving parents can perform his last rites and have a final glimpse of their son.
