Washington: The BBC has apologised to US President Donald Trump over an episode of Panorama that featured edited portions of his January 6, 2021 speech.
The corporation said that the cuts “gave the false impression that President Trump had directly called for violent action” and announced that the 2024 broadcast would not be aired again.
Trump has threatened to sue for $1 billion in damages unless the BBC withdraws the October 2024 documentary, issues a formal apology and pays compensation.
However, the broadcaster has ruled out any payout, maintaining that while the editing was inappropriate, the demand for compensation is not justified.
