Samastipur: A large number of VVPAT slips were found scattered on a road near KSR College in the Sarairanjan Assembly constituency of Samastipur, two days after the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections.
Following the discovery, the Election Commission took immediate action and suspended two polling staff members. Officials confirmed that an inquiry has been ordered into the incident and assured that those found guilty would face an FIR.
Authorities clarified that the incident will not affect the counting of votes, as the recovered slips were from mock polls conducted before actual voting to test the EVMs and VVPATs.
The slips were found dumped in garbage at Sheetalpatti village, prompting criticism from parties within the Grand Alliance, who have questioned the Election Commission over the lapse.
