TORONTO: A day after the murder of Punjabi industrialist Darshan Singh Sahasi, shots were fired at the residence of Punjabi singer Channi Nattan in Canada. The Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed responsibility for both incidents, saying the industrialist was targeted for refusing to pay ransom.
Police have launched investigations into both cases and have heightened security for potential targets within the Indian-Canadian community.
The Bishnoi gang, a major criminal syndicate led by Lawrence Bishnoi—who has been in an Indian jail since 2014—continues to orchestrate criminal operations from behind bars. The gang’s network, which spans India and countries like Canada, is involved in extortion, targeted killings, drug trafficking, and armed violence.
The group gained international notoriety following the 2022 murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala and has since been designated a terrorist organisation by Canadian authorities.
Responsibility for Sahasi’s murder and the firing at Channi Nattan’s home was claimed in a Facebook post by Goldy Dhillon, a known Bishnoi gang member. In his post, Dhillon alleged that Sahasi was killed due to his involvement in drug smuggling and his refusal to meet the gang’s ransom demands.
