AAP MLA Sukhwinder Sukhi Condemns Attack on Chief Justice Gavai
Punjab E News: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) launched a scathing attack on the BJP over its anti-Dalit mindset after the shocking suicide of senior Haryana IPS officer ADGP Y. Poonam Kumar, a Dalit officer, and the recent attack on Chief Justice of India Justice B. R. Gavai.
Addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in Chandigarh on Friday, AAP MLA Sukhwinder Kumar Sukhi said the two incidents are not isolated, they are part of a pattern that reveals BJP’s deep-rooted Manuwadi ideology and its intolerance towards Dalits and those who uphold the Constitution. AAP MLA was accompanied by AAP Punjab General Secretary Dr S.S. Ahluwalia in this press conference.
Sukhi said, “ADGP Poonam Kumar’s suicide is not an ordinary death, it is the murder of justice and equality. In his death note, he clearly mentioned how he was humiliated by top officials including the DGP, Chief Secretary, and other senior officers just because he was a Dalit. He was denied leave even to care for his ailing parents. This relentless caste-based persecution forced him to end his life. Yet, the BJP government in Haryana hasn’t filed even a single FIR against those named in his note. What could be more shameful?”
The AAP leader said the BJP’s government in Haryana has become synonymous with cruelty and caste arrogance. “When a senior Dalit IPS officer is driven to suicide, what hope remains for poor Dalits and oppressed citizens under BJP rule?” he asked.
Sukhi further condemned the planned attack on Chief Justice of India B. R. Gavai, calling it a direct assault on Dr. B. R. Ambedkar’s ideology and the Constitution itself. “The man who hurled a shoe at the Chief Justice didn’t insult Justice Gavai alone, he attacked the faith of crores of people who believe in equality, justice, and the vision of Baba Saheb. The silence of the BJP and its people over such a grave act shows their complicity,” Sukhi said.
He added, “This is the same BJP that neglected demand for Sant Ravidas’s Mandir. They use Dalits for votes and discard them afterwards. Is this what they mean by their slogan ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’?”
The AAP MLA said that Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s government has already shown the way by taking swift and strong action against those who spread hate against the Chief Justice and the Dalit community. “Dozens of FIRs were registered, and non-bailable sections were imposed. The same should happen in Haryana, but the BJP government is protecting the accused instead of punishing them.”
Sukhi demanded a judicial inquiry into ADGP Poonam Kumar’s death and immediate action against all officers and politicians named in his suicide note. He warned that if BJP governments continue to suppress Dalits and protect the guilty, “AAP and the entire Dalit community will come out on the streets to demand justice.”
“The BJP’s real face is exposed once again, it worships Manusmriti, not the Constitution. This fight is no longer just about one officer or one judge. It’s about protecting the soul of India, equality, justice, and dignity for all,” Sukhi concluded.
