Ludhiana: A luxury BMW car was completely destroyed after it caught fire suddenly on a busy stretch of road in Ludhiana on Monday. The incident took place on Ferozepur Road, near MBD Mall, triggering panic among passersby.
According to eyewitnesses, the car driver noticed smoke rising from the bonnet and immediately pulled the vehicle over to the roadside. Within seconds, flames erupted from the front portion of the car and quickly spread, engulfing the entire vehicle.
The fire intensified rapidly, turning the BMW — estimated to be worth around ₹50 lakh — into ashes within minutes. The driver, identified as Aakarshit, and a woman accompanying him managed to jump out of the car in time, narrowly escaping serious injury.
Videos recorded by bystanders show the fire starting from the front of the BMW X1 and rapidly spreading across the vehicle. The intensity of the flames forced people to keep a safe distance as thick smoke billowed into the air.
Locals at the spot attempted to douse the fire, but their efforts proved ineffective as the blaze spread swiftly. Fire services were later informed, though by then the car had already been completely gutted.
The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Police said no casualties were reported and further inquiry is underway.
