Bomb threat to schools in Amritsar triggers panic, security tightened

Amritsar: A sense of panic gripped the Amritsar district after several schools received bomb threat messages. The threat was sent to the official email ID of a government school located in Meharbanpura village, warning that the school would be blown up. The email also demanded that the singing of the national anthem in the school be stopped.

As soon as the threat was received, the school administration informed the police. Police and district administration officials rushed to the spot, cordoned off the school premises, and launched a thorough search operation. The bomb disposal squad and the cyber cell were also alerted.

Police are currently examining the email to trace its origin and identify the sender. Efforts are underway to determine from where and by whom the threat was issued.

Notably, this was the first day of reopening of government schools in Punjab after the holidays. Due to low student attendance, the possibility of a major mishap was reduced. However, as a precautionary measure, the school campus was evacuated and all students were safely sent back home.

The district administration has appealed to parents to remain calm and vigilant. Meanwhile, police have warned of strict action against those responsible for sending the threatening email. Security has been heightened in schools across the district, and monitoring is ongoing.
