Brazilian model reacts after her photo used in Haryana fake voter row

NEW DELHI: The issue of fake voting in Haryana took a new turn after Brazilian model Larissa reacted to the controversy surrounding the use of her picture in the state’s voters’ list. The matter gained national attention after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi showed her image during a press conference, alleging that 22 votes were cast in her name under different identities, including “Seema” and “Sweety.”

In a video posted on Instagram, Larissa clarified that her photo had been misused and that she had no connection with Indian politics. Speaking in Portuguese, she said, “Hello India… I was asked by some Indian journalists to make a video for you. I have nothing to do with Indian politics. I am a Brazilian model and digital influencer. I love the people of India. Thank you very much, Namaste.”

Larissa added that the incident had become very serious, with several Indian journalists seeking details from her. “Let everyone know that I am the mysterious Brazilian woman, but I have nothing to do with it. I don’t do modelling anymore. I’m only busy with child rearing and digital work,” she said.

The model explained that her photo was taken from a stock image website and misused in the voters’ list. “It wasn’t me, it was just my picture,” she said, adding that she appreciated the kindness and concern shown by Indians.

Towards the end of her video, Larissa smiled and said, “Do you think I look like an Indian? I think I look like a Mexican! But I have love in my heart for the people of India and look forward to talking to your followers.”

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi had displayed copies of the Haryana voters’ list during a press conference, alleging that the image of the Brazilian model was used multiple times to create fake voter entries. He also accused the Election Commission of allowing such discrepancies.
