Cabinet Minister Mohinder Bhagat slams BJP governments for anti-Dalit stance

Says inaction over recent incidents exposes BJP’s bias against Dalit community

Jalandhar News (Pawan Dhupar):  Punjab Horticulture Minister Mohinder Bhagat today strongly condemned the BJP Governments at the Centre and in Haryana, accusing them of following an anti-Dalit agenda that has triggered widespread resentment among Dalit communities across the nation.

Accompanied by MLA Balkar Singh, Punjab Safai Karamchari Commission Chairman Chandan Grewal, and District Planning Committee Chairman Amritpal Singh, the Minister cited two recent incidents — the attack attempt on the Chief Justice of India (CJI) and the suicide of an IPS officer in Haryana — as examples of growing intolerance and discrimination against Dalits.

He said that it was a matter of national pride that for the first time, a Dalit individual had become the Chief Justice of India purely on the basis of merit. However, the recent attack against him has deeply hurt the sentiments of the Dalit community.

Referring to the Haryana IPS officer’s suicide, Bhagat said the officer, belonging to the Dalit community, was driven to take this extreme step due to apathy and bias.

On behalf of the Aam Aadmi Party, Mr. Bhagat demanded stern legal action against those responsible and urged registration of a murder case to ensure justice to the family of deceased IPS officer. He said the BJP’s silence on such incidents has exposed its anti-Dalit face before the nation. Prominent amongst others present on the occasion included Senior AAP leaders Principal Prem Kumar, Kimti Bhagat, and Media In-Charge Sanjiv Bhagat.
