Case registered against former Dharamkot SDM and suspended ADC Moga over NH-71 land records probe

Chandigarh: The Vigilance Bureau has booked the then SDM of Dharamkot and suspended Additional Deputy Commissioner Moga, Charumita, along with retired Public Works Department executive engineer V K Kapoor and former Tehsildar (Circle Revenue Officer) Maninder Singh for alleged negligence in fact-finding and verification of old revenue records related to the NH-71 project. SSP Vigilance Ferozepur Manjit Singh confirmed that an FIR has been registered against the officials.

Officials said Dr Charumita, who was involved in the land acquisition process for the Jalandhar-Moga-Barnala NH-703 (now NH-71), had earlier been suspended for dereliction of duty and also faced a chargesheet.

The action follows a petition filed in the Punjab and Haryana High Court by Jaswinder Singh, a resident of village Bahadurwala, who claimed ownership of around two kanals and 19 marlas of land since 1986. He said the land was acquired 11 years ago under the NH-71 project but he had not received compensation.

Revenue officials have said a consent award was passed as per rules and the compensation amount remains in the state exchequer.
