CBI arrests six J&K police officials, including DSP, over alleged torture of constable

Jammu: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested six Jammu and Kashmir police officials, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ejaz Ahmad Naiko, in connection with the alleged illegal detention and torture of a constable in 2023.

The arrests follow directions of the Supreme Court, which had ordered a CBI probe into the case. According to official sources, those arrested also include Sub-Inspector Riyaz Ahmed and four other policemen.

The constable was allegedly tortured to the extent that he became incapacitated, sources said.

On July 21, a bench of Justices Vikram Nath and Sandeep Mehta directed the CBI to register a case within seven days.

The court also instructed the CBI director to constitute a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by an officer not below the rank of superintendent of police, to conduct the probe.
