CBI questions Bathinda judge in Rs 30 lakh bribery case linked to divorce settlement

Chandigarh: The case of demanding a bribe of ₹30 lakh to secure a favorable decision in a divorce case has once again come into the spotlight. The Chandigarh CBI team has now brought a Bathinda court judge under the ambit of its investigation, after advocate Jatin Salwan and a broker allegedly sought money in the judge’s name from the complainant.

According to sources, the CBI team visited Bathinda and questioned the judge behind closed doors for several hours. During the interrogation, more than 20 questions were asked. The judge, however, denied all allegations and claimed to have no knowledge of the bribery matter. Investigators repeatedly referred to recordings in which the judge’s name had surfaced.

Officials said the judge may face further trouble as the agency is considering including his name in the charge sheet based on the interrogation.

Meanwhile, accused advocate Jatin Salwan has filed a bail plea in the High Court. During the hearing on Tuesday, September 30, the court sought a status report from the CBI and specifically asked if the Bathinda judicial officer had been questioned. The agency confirmed that the judge has been interrogated and included in the probe.
