CBI registers FIR against ex-Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, wife Razia Sultana in son’s death case

CHANDIGARH: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered an FIR against former Punjab DGP Mohammad Mustafa, his wife and former Punjab minister Razia Sultana, and others in connection with the death of their son Aqeel Akhtar (35), who was found dead under suspicious circumstances in Haryana’s Panchkula on October 16.

According to the FIR lodged on Friday, there was an ongoing dispute between Akhtar and his family. The CBI said the case was registered on November 6 following a request from the Haryana government.

The agency said Akhtar, who lived in Sector 4 near the Mansa Devi temple in Panchkula, had died under suspicious circumstances. The FIR names Mustafa, Sultana, Akhtar’s wife, and sister under provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to murder and criminal conspiracy.

The CBI noted that Akhtar had posted a video on social media on August 27, alleging that he had discovered an “illicit relationship” between his wife and father. He also claimed in the video that his mother, sister and wife were conspiring to either kill him or implicate him in a false case.

The Panchkula police had initially registered a case, but the Naib Singh Saini-led Haryana government later handed over the investigation to the CBI.
