Ludhiana: The Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) Commissionerate in Ludhiana has unearthed a GST fraud worth ₹54 crore during a major operation in Mandi Gobindgarh and nearby areas. The action was carried out by a special intelligence-based team of the department.
According to officials, a private company allegedly issued fake invoices amounting to nearly ₹300 crore under the guise of manufacturing iron and steel products.
The bogus bills were used to illegally claim input tax credit (ITC), which was then adjusted against GST liability, causing significant revenue loss to the government.
Following the raid, the department arrested one of the key individuals linked to the company under various provisions of the CGST Act, 2017. Sources said the accused had a central role in planning and executing the entire fraud.
