Centre allows India to play Pakistan in Asia Cup, rules out bilateral series

New Delhi: The Central government has allowed the Indian cricket team to face Pakistan in the upcoming Asia Cup, despite reiterating that no bilateral series will be played between the two nations following the Pahalgam terror attack.

Officials said India would not withdraw from the Asia Cup, as the tournament involves multiple countries apart from Pakistan.

The Asia Cup is set to begin on September 9, with the much-anticipated India-Pakistan clash scheduled for September 14 at the Dubai International Stadium. Depending on performances, the two teams could face each other up to three times during the tournament.

The government clarified that a new sports policy has been formulated, allowing India to participate in international and multi-nation tournaments in line with rules of international sports bodies and the interests of Indian players, whether such events are hosted domestically or abroad.
