Chandigarh: A fast-track special court in Chandigarh has sentenced 35-year-old Monu Kumar to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1 lakh for the rape and murder of 21-year-old MBA student Neha Ahlawat.
The case dates back to July 30, 2010, when police registered an FIR against an unidentified person after Neha’s blood-soaked body was found in a forested area of Sector 38.
According to the complaint filed by Neha’s father, his daughter had left home around 6 pm on her scooter to attend an English class in Sector 15.
When she did not return by 9 pm, the family contacted her friend, only to learn she had not reached the class. Further investigation later led police to Monu Kumar, who has now been convicted by the court.
