Chandigarh permits 24-hour liquor service in hotels, extends club timings under new excise policy

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Administration has introduced provisions allowing round-the-clock liquor service in A-category hotels under the new Chandigarh Excise Policy 2026-27, a move aimed at strengthening the hospitality sector and increasing government revenue.

Under the revised policy, A-category hotels in Chandigarh will be permitted to serve liquor 24 hours a day. The facility can also be extended to B and C category hotels if they choose to pay an additional annual licence fee of ₹30 lakh.

The policy further allows hotels to install mini-bars inside guest rooms for the convenience of guests.

In addition, the administration has expanded the licensing framework for bars and restaurants in the city. Establishments will now be allowed to operate from 11 am to 1 am, although they will not be permitted to accept orders after midnight.

Clubs, bars and restaurants seeking extended service hours can apply for a special licence. By paying an additional annual fee of ₹8 lakh, they will be allowed to serve liquor until 3 am, with the last order permitted only until 2 am.

Officials said the policy is intended to support the hospitality industry while ensuring better regulation and higher revenue collection for the administration.
