Cloudburst in Uttarakhand sweeps away Kheer Ganga village, four dead, over 50 missing

Kheer Ganga: A cloudburst in Dharali area of Uttarkashi district on Tuesday afternoon swept away the entire Kheer Ganga village in just 34 seconds, leaving behind widespread destruction. The incident occurred around 1:45 pm, triggering a flash flood that brought heavy debris and rainwater rushing down from the hills.

Several videos and photos from the site show the terrifying moment as the gushing water swallowed homes and shops. Eyewitnesses said there was panic and screams as the flood approached the village. The Dharali market and multiple hotels were badly damaged, with water and debris entering buildings.

Uttarkashi District Magistrate Prashant Arya confirmed that four people have died so far, and more than 50 are reported missing. Many are feared trapped under the debris. Rescue efforts are underway with teams from the Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) deployed at the site.

Dharali village is located about 218 km from Dehradun and 10 km from the Gangotri Dham. Heavy rainfall has been lashing the region for the past two days, further complicating rescue operations.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said the administration is monitoring the situation closely and all necessary help is being provided.
