CM Mann condemns BJP for targeting Atishi over alleged remarks on Guru Tegh Bahadur

CM Bhagwant Mann

Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly condemned the BJP for targeting senior Aam Aadmi Party leader Atishi over alleged remarks on Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Mann said Atishi never made any such comments and accused the BJP of distorting facts for political gain.

Accusing the BJP of being consistently anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh, Mann said in a post on X, “Today, the BJP’s anti-Punjab and anti-Sikh face has once again been exposed. By falsely linking Guru Sahib’s name to a video of Atishi, they have insulted the Guru, even though Atishi never uttered those words. The BJP should apologise to the Sikh community and the people of Punjab for this shameful act. The party has always indulged in politics of religion and hatred, but this will not work in Punjab,” he said.

On Wednesday, BJP legislators forced an adjournment of the Delhi Assembly proceedings and demanded the cancellation of Atishi’s membership, accusing her of insulting Sikh Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. Atishi, however, accused the BJP of indulging in petty politics by misusing the name of the ninth Sikh Guru.

Senior BJP leader Rekha Gupta alleged that Atishi made “shameful and incorrect” remarks about the Sikh Guru in the Assembly and urged Speaker Vijender Gupta to initiate action against her.
