Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann has ordered strict action over alleged negligence in tackling drug abuse in Bathinda district, directing the transfer of the entire staff of Kot Shamir police post.

The action came after a complaint raised by a village sarpanch during a party meeting. Acting on the CM’s directions, Bathinda Range DIG Harjeet Singh transferred 11 police personnel, including the post in-charge, to Mansa district.

The transferred officials include three ASIs, four senior constables, one constable and three home guards. Additionally, a departmental inquiry has been ordered against the SHO of Bathinda Sadar police station.

The move follows allegations made by Gulabgarh village sarpanch Lakha Singh, who highlighted suspected drug-related deaths and alleged laxity by local police in addressing the issue.

Taking immediate cognisance, the Chief Minister instructed senior officials to initiate strict action and made it clear that any negligence in dealing with drug-related cases will not be tolerated.

Notably, Bathinda SSP Jyoti Yadav is currently on leave, and the additional charge of the district is being handled by Mansa SSP Bhagirath Singh Meena.
