Chandigarh: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann on Saturday condemned the murder of a 13-year-old girl in Jalandhar’s West Circle, calling the incident “brutal and inhuman”. Speaking at a Zaria Foundation event in Patiala, CM Mann said the accused would be given the harshest punishment at the earliest.
“This matter comes under the category of brutality. The accused will be hanged soon, so that as long as this incident is in the minds of people, they see that the guilty get the death penalty,” CM Mann said.
Calling the crime “unimaginable in today’s world”, CM Mann said he could not understand how such cruelty enters the minds of people. He added that he had directed the police to prepare a strict and detailed report in the case.
The Chief Minister said the case will be taken up in a fast-track court to ensure swift justice. He added that a strong punishment would send a clear message that no one should even think of committing such a crime again.
