Chandigarh: Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann is on the second day of his visit to Amritsar, where he is set to announce a major development initiative for residents of the border region of Ajnala.
A large public programme has been organised at the Dana Mandi in Ajnala, which the chief minister to attend. During the event, Mann will lay the foundation stone of a new government degree college, fulfilling a long-pending demand of the area.
Residents have been seeking a higher education institution for several years. Once completed, the college is expected to benefit students from Ajnala and nearby villages by reducing the need to travel to distant cities for undergraduate education.
Massive public gathering planned
A massive public meeting has been arranged at Dana Mandi to welcome the chief minister. People from Ajnala and surrounding villages are expected to attend in large numbers.
There is visible enthusiasm in the region ahead of the programme, with locals describing the proposed college as a significant step towards educational and overall development of the border constituency.
