Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Thursday visited Sunam in Punjab, the birthplace of Shaheed Udham Singh, and paid floral tributes to the revolutionary freedom fighter. He met members of the martyr’s family and discussed various issues with them.

“Shaheed Udham Singh’s sacrifice and his lifelong commitment to justice will always inspire generations. I feel blessed to be here,” Saini said.

The Chief Minister also planted a sapling at the site as a mark of respect. He was accompanied by Punjab BJP president Ashwani Sharma.

Remembering the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, Saini said, “General Dyer’s order led to the killing of thousands of innocent Indians. Shaheed Udham Singh had vowed to avenge it and after 21 years of perseverance, he fulfilled that promise by killing General Dyer.”

“It is my good fortune to have visited the birthplace of such a great revolutionary. I am thankful to his family for their hospitality,” he added.
