Congress expels Navjot Kaur Sidhu from party

Chandigarh: The Congress on Wednesday expelled senior leader and former MLA Navjot Kaur Sidhu from the party, days after she announced her decision to quit and levelled serious allegations against the party leadership.

The decision was announced by Bhupesh Baghel, the Congress in-charge for Punjab affairs. He said disciplinary action was taken in view of her recent statements and conduct, which the party described as indiscipline.

Notably, Navjot Kaur Sidhu had last week publicly declared that she was leaving the Indian National Congress, sharing her decision through a social media post. In the same post, she accused several senior party leaders of corruption and internal sabotage. She had earlier been suspended from the party in connection with her controversial remarks related to an alleged ₹500-crore attachment case.

In her statements, Dr Sidhu had also targeted Punjab Congress president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring, alleging that he was acting in collusion with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to weaken and damage the Congress from within. She claimed that the party’s decline in Punjab was not due to electoral defeats but because of internal factionalism and leadership failures.

The expulsion marks a formal end to Navjot Kaur Sidhu’s association with the Congress, amid indications that she may explore other political options in the near future.
