Chandigarh: Congress leader Khushbaaz Singh Jatana was killed in a road accident near Jakhauli toll plaza in Haryana’s Sonipat district on Thursday evening.
Jatana was returning to Chandigarh from Delhi when his vehicle reportedly stopped due to a tyre burst. During this time, a speeding truck rammed into the stationary SUV from behind.
He and his driver, Parminder Singh, died on the spot, while a gunman, Karandeep Singh, sustained serious injuries and was admitted to hospital. Two other security personnel were also reported injured.
The accident occurred around 6:15 pm when Jatana had halted the vehicle to fix the puncture, officials said.
Jatana was a former student leader associated with SOPU in Chandigarh and had contested the Punjab Assembly elections twice from Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda district.
His body has been taken to a civil hospital in Sonipat, while the injured are undergoing treatment.
