NEW DELHI: The All India Congress Committee (AICC) today released the list of star campaigners for the second phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, notably excluding former Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi.
Channi, who had featured in the list of star campaigners for the first phase, has been dropped following recent political controversy. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had targeted the former Punjab CM and current Jalandhar MP during an election rally in Bihar’s Chhapra, referring to Channi’s remarks about his brothers.
According to party sources, the Congress’s decision to omit Channi’s name from the second-phase campaigners’ list is being viewed as a fallout of the remarks that drew sharp criticism from the BJP.
