Congress to launch statewide awareness campaign in Punjab against G-RAM-G law

Chandigarh: The Congress party is set to launch a statewide awareness campaign in Punjab against the central government’s Developed India Employment and Livelihood Mission (Rural), also known as the G-RAM-G law. The campaign will begin on Thursday with programmes scheduled at nine locations over five days.

As part of efforts by the Congress high command to unite the party organisation in Punjab, senior leaders will come together on a common platform. Several national leaders, including senior Congress leader Bhupesh Baghel, will be present in the state during these programmes.

Details of the campaign were shared by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring through a poster. The party has announced a focused programme against the central government. From January 8 to January 12, 2026, Congress will run a public awareness drive across Punjab under the banner ‘Save MGNREGA Struggle’.

During the campaign, labourers and rural residents will be informed about the importance of MGNREGA and the losses being caused to them. Congress leaders said the MGNREGA scheme was introduced by the UPA government under the leadership of Dr Manmohan Singh to guarantee stable employment to the poor and working class.

He said the scheme provided employment to crores of families and ensured food security. However, the BJP-led central government is weakening the scheme through continuous budget cuts and delays in payments, directly affecting the livelihood of the poor.
