Court frames charges against five in Raja Raghuvanshi murder case in Meghalaya

SHILLONG: A court in Meghalaya’s East Khasi Hills district has framed charges against five accused in connection with the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi.

The accused have been identified as Sonam Raghuvanshi, her boyfriend Raj Kushwaha, and three others — Vishal Chauhan, Akash Rajput and Anand Kurmi.

The court on Tuesday framed charges under Sections 103(1) (murder), 238(a) (disappearance of evidence) and 61(2) (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Judicial Code.

Police had earlier submitted a 790-page charge sheet in the court of the Judicial Magistrate First Class of Sohra Sub-Division on September 5. While framing the charges, the court said that prima facie there was sufficient evidence to proceed against the accused.

The defence, however, argued that the accused were innocent. The trial is expected to begin soon. The accused had applied for bail five times, but their pleas were rejected by the trial court.
