Court orders removal of AI deepfake video of Punjab

CM bhagwant mann

Chandigarh: A Mohali court has directed Facebook and Google to take down an AI-generated deepfake video of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann circulating online.

In an order issued on October 22, the court instructed the platforms to remove all abusive content and preserve relevant records.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) condemned the circulation of the video, calling it fake and politically motivated. “An AI deepfake video of the Punjab Chief Minister is being shared by right-wing trolls. This is a fake video and the court has directed its removal,” the party wrote on X.

Police have registered a case against Jagman Samra, a Canadian national, for allegedly posting “obscene and illegal” content on social media to incite enmity between two communities. The Facebook account under the name ‘Jagman Samra’ has reportedly uploaded several objectionable posts through the link https://www.facebook.com/jagman.samra.369309, police said.

The case has been filed under sections 340(2), 352(1), 353(2), 351(2), 336(4), and 67 of the Information Technology Act at the Punjab State Crime Police Station on October 21.
