Crane falls on speeding passenger train in Thailand, 22 killed and over 80 injured

Thailand: At least 22 people were killed and more than 80 others were injured after a crane fell from a height of around 65 feet onto a high-speed passenger train in Thailand on Wednesday. Several coaches of the train were badly damaged in the accident.

According to a media report, many of the injured passengers are in critical condition. The crane was being used for the construction of a railway bridge at the time of the incident.

Officials said there were 195 passengers on board the train when the accident occurred, most of whom were school students. The train was reportedly travelling at a speed of around 120 km per hour.

As per reports by news website Nation Thailand, the sudden collapse of the crane left the train driver with no time to apply brakes. After the collision, debris from the crane fell onto the coaches, causing several of them to derail. Fire broke out in the coaches shortly after they went off the tracks.

Rescue and relief operations were launched immediately, while authorities have ordered a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident.
