Delhi Assembly Speaker says FSL report finds Atishi video ‘unaltered’; AAP rejects findings

New Delhi: Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta on Saturday said that the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report on a video allegedly showing Leader of the Opposition Atishi making remarks disrespectful to Sikh Gurus has concluded that the clip is genuine and has not been tampered with.

Reacting to the report, Delhi AAP president Saurabh Bharadwaj rejected its findings, saying it failed to answer the core question of whether Atishi had actually uttered the word “Guru”. He maintained that Atishi never used the term and alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party was attempting to create religious disharmony by circulating the video.

Earlier, the AAP-ruled Punjab Police had claimed that its forensic examination found the video to be doctored. Following this, AAP chief whip Sanjeev Jha had sought action against Delhi minister Kapil Mishra for breach of privilege.

Addressing a press conference, Speaker Gupta said the video had been sent for forensic examination on January 8 at the request of AAP itself. He claimed the FSL report clearly stated that the alleged comment matched the video frames. Gupta further alleged that the Punjab government had conducted its probe “in haste” and registered an FIR, and said he would seek a CBI inquiry into the entire matter, including the Punjab government’s forensic report.

Gupta said Atishi should tender an apology, failing which the Assembly would take strict action. The controversy stems from an alleged remark made during a discussion in the Assembly on January 6 on the 350th martyrdom anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadur.

While Atishi has accused the BJP of indulging in “cheap politics”, Kapil Mishra claimed that the FSL report had proved her “guilt”.
