New Delhi: Security has been heightened across the national capital after a powerful blast near the Red Fort metro station on Monday evening. Investigators suspect the explosion was part of a larger terror plot aimed at targeting Republic Day celebrations.
According to the Delhi Police, one of the main suspects arrested in connection with the so-called ‘white-collar terror module’, Dr. Muzammil Ganai, had allegedly conducted multiple recces of the Red Fort area in January this year. The claim was made following an analysis of Ganai’s mobile dump data.
Police officials said they believe the reconnaissance was part of a broader conspiracy to target the historic monument on January 26.
However, the plan may have been thwarted due to intensified security and increased patrolling in the area during that period.
