CHANDIGARH: Dense fog led to major accidents on highways in Punjab on Thursday morning, disrupting traffic and leaving several people injured. On the Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway, five vehicles collided near village Kala Bakra due to poor visibility.
According to officials, a tipper rammed into a truck moving ahead on the highway. Moments later, three more vehicles coming from behind also crashed into each other, triggering a pile-up. Several vehicles were damaged in the accident. However, no casualties were reported.
In a separate incident on the Chandigarh Highway in Mohali, two school buses collided due to dense fog. One bus was coming from Kurali, while the other was heading towards Kurali from the wrong side, leading to the collision. Five people, including the drivers of both buses, were injured and were rushed to hospital.
Hospital sources said one bus driver suffered a fracture in his leg, while the other received six stitches on the head. Three schoolchildren were also injured. Two of them were discharged after first aid, while one child has been kept under observation.
Police have advised motorists to exercise caution and avoid speeding during foggy conditions.
