Chandigarh: Farmers and leaders of the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha who were detained earlier in the day were released late at night, following which protests at multiple locations in Punjab were called off.
According to farmer leader Gurbachan Singh Chabba, around 70 farmers, including Sarwan Singh Pandher, were taken into custody and later released unconditionally from Fatehpur Central Jail and Goindwal Jail.
After their release, the organisation withdrew its protests, including rail blockades near Gohalwar and Ghaseetpur, as well as a road protest near Sarhali.
The farmers had been detained early morning around 5:30 am by police from a protest site on Ram Tirath Road bypass.
The development brought temporary relief as tensions eased following the release, though farmer leaders indicated that their demands remain unresolved and future action could be decided soon.
