DGCA grounds four VSR Ventures aircraft after Baramati crash audit

New Delhi: India’s aviation regulator, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), has grounded four aircraft operated by VSR Ventures with immediate effect following a special safety audit conducted after last month’s crash near Baramati.

The audit reportedly found multiple lapses in safety and maintenance compliance. The regulator said the aircraft will remain grounded until the company rectifies the deficiencies and meets all prescribed safety standards.

Baramati crash

On January 28, a Learjet operated by VSR Ventures crashed near Baramati in Maharashtra. The accident resulted in the deaths of five people, including Maharashtra’s then Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.

Following the incident, the DGCA initiated a detailed review of the operator’s safety systems and maintenance procedures. Officials said serious irregularities were detected during the audit.

The four aircraft that have been grounded bear registration numbers VT-VRA, VT-VRS, VT-VRV and VT-TRI.

The DGCA has sought a detailed response from the company regarding the identified lapses. A preliminary investigation report into the crash is expected by February 28.
