Dharamshala: An FIR has been registered against a college professor and three students in connection with the alleged ragging, sexual abuse and death of a 19-year-old student of a government degree college in Dharamshala, police said.
Police officials said the case was registered at Dharamshala police station against college professor Ashok Kumar and three students — Harshita, Aakriti and Komolika — under Sections 75, 115(2) and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 3 of the Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Act, 2009.
The complaint was filed by the victim’s father, Vikram Kumar, a resident of Siddhbari in Dharamshala. According to police, the complainant said his daughter Pallavi (19) was a second-year student at Government Degree College, Dharamshala.
He alleged that on September 18, 2025, the three students assaulted his daughter and threatened her. He also alleged that college professor Ashok Kumar made obscene advances towards Pallavi.
The complainant told police that following the alleged harassment and threats, his daughter became extremely frightened and mentally distressed, which led to a serious deterioration in her health. He said she was initially treated at several hospitals in Himachal Pradesh as her condition kept worsening.
Later, Pallavi was referred to Dayanand Medical College and Hospital (DMC), Ludhiana, where she died during treatment on December 26, 2025.
Police said further investigation into the matter is underway.
