DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar caught red-handed taking bribe in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested Harcharan Singh Bhullar, DIG of Ropar range in Punjab, after catching him red-handed while taking a bribe. Bhullar had allegedly demanded ₹5 lakh from a scrap dealer in Mandi Gobindgarh.

According to officials, the businessman approached the CBI with a complaint, following which a trap was laid. On Thursday, the businessman arrived at Bhullar’s office in Mohali with the money, where the CBI team apprehended him.

Following the arrest, CBI officials, along with Bhullar, reached his residence in Sector 40, Chandigarh, where a search operation is currently underway. He is expected to be produced before the CBI’s special court in Chandigarh on Friday.

Bhullar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, was appointed DIG of the Ropar range on November 27, 2024. During his tenure, several cases of illegal car trade surfaced, in which scrap vehicles were allegedly being sold after tampering with chassis numbers. Sources said Bhullar took bribes to suppress such cases.

He has earlier served as SSP in Barnala, Sangrur, Hoshiarpur, and Mohali districts.
