Mumbai: Singer and actor Diljit Dosanjh has spoken out for the first time on the controversy surrounding his film Sardaarji 3, following criticism over its association with Pakistani actress Hania Aamir and the backdrop of the Pahalgam terror attack.
During a recent show in Malaysia, Dosanjh said that Sikhs can never go against the country and expressed grief over the Pahalgam attack. “We have always prayed to God that the terrorists get the harshest punishment,” he said.
Addressing the criticism, he clarified that his film was shot in February, before the attack, while the India-Pakistan Asia Cup match in Dubai was played afterwards. “This is the flag of my country. Always be respectful,” Dosanjh said in a viral video from the event.
The singer also explained his prolonged silence. “I have a lot of answers, but I kept everything to myself. No matter what someone tells you, you must not take that poison into you. I’ve learned this from life,” he said.
Earlier this year, Dosanjh faced widespread backlash after Sardaarji 3 was filmed with Hania Aamir and scheduled for release worldwide except in India. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had even called for him to be blacklisted and his citizenship revoked, though the order was later withdrawn.
