Do not view RSS through BJP lens, says Mohan Bhagwat in Kolkata

KOLKATA: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh) chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the Sangh should not be understood through the prism of the Bharatiya Janata Party (Bharatiya Janata Party), asserting that doing so would be a “big mistake”.

Addressing a ‘Samvad’ programme in Kolkata, Bhagwat said many people try to see the Sangh only in political terms. “The Sangh is not just a service organisation. If you want to understand the Sangh, you have to look at the Sangh itself,” he said, adding that it cannot be understood merely by observation but through experience.

His remarks came days after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi referred to Bhagwat during an interaction in Germany, claiming that the RSS chief had suggested power was important.

Samvad programmes are being organised in Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru as part of events marking 100 years of the Sangh. At the Kolkata programme, Bhagwat spoke on Hindu society, politics and the role of the RSS.
