Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has suspended Tarn Taran SSP Dr Ravjot Kaur Grewal just three days before the by-election in the constituency. The Commission directed her suspension with immediate effect.
Amritsar Commissioner of Police Gurpreet Singh Bhullar (IPS) has been given additional charge as SSP Tarn Taran. Voting for the Tarn Taran by-election will be held on November 11, and results will be announced on November 14.
Fifteen days ago, the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) had lodged a complaint with the state’s Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) against Dr Grewal, accusing her of acting under the influence of the Aam Aadmi Party and filing false cases against Akali Dal workers.
SAD president Sukhbir Badal had also demanded the transfer of two DSPs along with the SSP. The suspension is believed to have been taken in response to these complaints.
