ED, income tax department raid former Punjab minister Sunder Sham Arora’s residence

Hoshiarpur: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the income tax department on Wednesday carried out a search operation at the residence of former Punjab industries minister Sunder Sham Arora in Hoshiarpur, officials said.

The search was conducted early in the morning with teams reaching Arora’s house along with security personnel. Officials examined documents and electronic devices as part of the operation, while movement in and out of the premises was restricted during the search.

Sources said mobile phones and other digital equipment were also checked as investigators scrutinised financial records. The action led to heightened security in the area and drew the attention of local residents.

Arora has been under the scanner of investigative agencies in connection with alleged irregularities during his tenure as minister. He has earlier faced corruption-related cases linked to the alleged misuse of office and accumulation of assets disproportionate to known sources of income. The vigilance bureau had previously arrested him in one such case.

Officials said the present action indicates that the probe has expanded to examine possible money laundering angles. The income tax department is also analysing financial transactions to assess discrepancies between declared income and assets.

No official statement has yet been issued regarding recoveries or further action. Sources indicated that the investigation is ongoing and that agencies are also keeping watch on the activities of Arora’s associates and business links.

Further details are expected as the probe progresses.
