New Delhi: Kapil Raj, a senior Enforcement Directorate officer who oversaw the arrests of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in money laundering cases, has resigned after serving for 16 years.

The Finance Ministry said that the President has accepted his resignation.

Raj, 45, is a 2009-batch IRS officer who served in the ED for nearly eight years and recently completed his deputation with the agency. He was currently posted as an additional commissioner in the GST intelligence wing in Delhi.

Officials said Raj cited “personal reasons” for resigning. During his tenure, he was known for closely monitoring high-profile political cases, preparing and investigating questionnaires for arrests, and frequently visiting search sites to oversee operations and motivate his teams.

Raj, who belongs to a middle-class family in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, holds a BTech degree in Electronics. He had supervised the arrest of Soren in Ranchi in January last year in a land scam case and Kejriwal’s arrest on March 21 after a search at the Delhi Chief Minister’s official residence.
