Washington: The dispute between US President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk has intensified, with Musk announcing the formation of a new political outfit, the ‘America Party,’ claiming that Trump’s recently signed tax cut and spending bill would bankrupt the country.
Musk made the announcement on his X platform, stating, “Today the America Party is created to give you back your freedom.” A day earlier, he had conducted a poll asking his followers whether a new American political party should be formed.
The development comes amid rising tensions between the two, despite Musk having spent a significant amount supporting Trump’s election campaigns in the past. Trump has recently criticised Musk, warning him that without government subsidies, Tesla would not be able to continue its electric vehicle production and SpaceX would not be able to launch rockets and satellites. Trump further said that if subsidies were stopped, Musk would have to leave his business and return to South Africa.
Trump also called for a probe into the subsidies received by Musk, claiming the Tesla CEO has benefited significantly from government support.
The US President reiterated his stance against mandatory conditions for purchasing electric vehicles, stating that while EVs are beneficial, people should not be forced to buy them.
