Ex-Prince Andrew arrested over alleged misconduct linked to Epstein case

London: Former Prince Andrew, the younger brother of King Charles III, has been arrested by police on suspicion of misconduct in public office following renewed scrutiny over his links with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

According to Thames Valley Police, the Duke of York was taken into custody at around 8 am on Thursday from his residence in Sandringham. Officers are also conducting searches at properties in Berkshire and Norfolk connected to him.

The arrest comes amid allegations dating back to the period when Prince Andrew served as the UK’s trade envoy, a position he held from 2001 until his resignation a decade later after his association with Epstein drew widespread criticism.

US Department of Justice documents had earlier indicated that Andrew remained in contact with Epstein while holding the public role. Virginia Giuffre had alleged that the royal sexually abused her in 2001 when she was 17 years old. Prince Andrew has consistently denied the allegations.

Reports state that Giuffre died by suicide in April 2025.

Authorities have not disclosed further details regarding the current investigation.
