CHANDIGARH: The family of Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar has expressed resentment over the slow pace of investigation by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Chandigarh Police into his alleged suicide case. The family’s legal team has also voiced displeasure at the delay.
According to officials, the SIT described the case as “high profile” and said every angle was being thoroughly examined. The statements of several key witnesses have been recorded so far.
However, the forensic report is still awaited, and some important documents related to the case are yet to be received from the Haryana government.
The SIT said that notices for questioning will soon be issued to former Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia and the daughter of the late IPS officer.
During the investigation, it was found that Puran Kumar had shot himself not with the revolver of his Personal Security Officer (PSO) Sushil Kumar, but with that of gunman Suneet Kumar. On October 7, the day of the incident, Suneet Kumar was reportedly on duty at the officer’s Sector-11 residence. The police are now conducting a departmental inquiry to determine how Suneet Kumar’s revolver reached the IPS officer.
