Chandigarh: A major relief has come for residents of Barnala, Mansa, Malerkotla and Sangrur districts of Punjab as the central government on Wednesday approved a halt for the Ferozepur–Delhi Vande Bharat Express at Barnala.
Announcing the decision at the Parliament House complex, Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu said that the demand for a stoppage at Barnala had been raised by leaders from various political parties. He said Aam Aadmi Party MP Meet Hayer, Rajya Sabha MP Rajendra Gupta and BJP leader Kewal Singh Dhillon had collectively pressed for the halt.
Bittu said he was pleased to announce that the demand had been accepted and the Vande Bharat train would now stop at Barnala. He added that the decision would significantly improve connectivity and provide convenience to passengers from the region.
The minister said the new stoppage is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy of Barnala and neighbouring districts including Mansa, Malerkotla and Sangrur by boosting travel and business opportunities.
