FIR registered against former Phillaur SHO after woman’s audio clip goes viral

Jalandhar: A legal action has been initiated against former Station House Officer (SHO) Bhushan Kumar of Phillaur police station in Punjab’s Jalandhar district after an audio clip of a woman went viral on social media.

Late on Tuesday night, the Jalandhar rural police registered an FIR against Bhushan Kumar under multiple sections of law.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harvinder Singh Virk confirmed the development, saying, “A case has been registered against Bhushan Kumar after a preliminary investigation into the audio and video content circulating on social media. The material is currently undergoing forensic examination.”

Earlier, Punjab State Women’s Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill had taken cognizance of the matter and issued a notice to SSP Jalandhar (Rural), directing strict action. The commission had summoned both parties, including SHO Bhushan Kumar and DSP Bal, for a hearing on November 13.

During the meeting, Raj Lali Gill reprimanded the SHO, stating that the exploitation of women under the guise of uniform would not be tolerated. She further directed that all conversations with women inside police stations must be conducted in front of CCTV cameras.
