FIR registered against Haryana Chief Secretary, DGP and 13 others in IPS officer suicide case

CHANDIGARH: In a major development, an FIR has been registered against 15 senior officials, including Haryana Chief Secretary Anurag Rastogi, DGP Shatrujit Kapoor, and Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarnia, in connection with the suicide of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar.

Based on the officer’s suicide note, the Chandigarh Police registered FIR No. 156 late on Thursday night at Sector-11 police station under Section 108 and 3(5) of the Code of Justice of India (BNS) and Section 3(1)(r) of the SC/ST Act. This marks the first instance in Haryana’s history where an FIR has been lodged against such a large number of top police and administrative officials, including the Chief Secretary and DGP.

However, the deceased officer’s wife, Amneet P. Kumar, who is a senior IAS officer, has objected to the FIR. In her complaint to Chandigarh Police, she said the names of the accused officers were not listed separately in the report and demanded that the FIR be rewritten in a proper format.

Sources said Amneet had a heated discussion with Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur over the issue and is expected to meet her again shortly.

Meanwhile, Puran Kumar’s post-mortem has not been conducted even after four days, as the family continues to refuse until their demands are met. The state government has assigned Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Krishna Lal Panwar to handle the matter. Panwar has met Amneet twice, urging her to allow the post-mortem and funeral, but she has reportedly refused to do so until the DGP is removed from his post and the Rohtak SP is arrested.
