Five killed, 14 injured as passenger train collides with goods train in Bilaspur

BILASPUR: A major train accident occurred in Bilaspur district of Chhattisgarh on Tuesday when a passenger train rammed into a goods train, killing five people and injuring at least 14 others. The incident took place in the Lalkhand area on the Bilaspur-Katni railway line.

Several passengers were trapped following the collision, and rescue teams immediately began operations. The seriously injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. Reports suggest that the passenger train hit the goods train from behind.

The railway administration deployed medical teams and divisional officers to the site. Senior officials have also reached Bilaspur to assess the situation. Train movement on the route has been halted, with multiple express and passenger trains either cancelled or diverted.

The accident caused significant damage to overhead wires and signalling systems, which may delay restoration of traffic. Technical teams are working to repair the damage and clear the tracks. Railways have arranged alternative transportation for affected passengers.
