Ludhiana: Five persons, including two minor girls, were killed after a speeding car rammed into a divider near the Ladhowal toll plaza in Ludhiana late on Sunday night. The impact was so severe that the occupants suffered grievous head and neck injuries, officials said.
The bodies were brought to the civil hospital in two ambulances around 1 am. The victims, yet to be identified, included two minor girls and three youths. They were travelling from Jagraon to Amritsar when the accident occurred.
According to initial reports, the Hyundai Verna (registration PB10DH-4619) was heading from South City towards Ladowal. Due to high speed, the driver allegedly lost control of the vehicle, which struck a divider, overturned and dragged for several metres. The bodies were badly mutilated; one victim’s arm was severed while another’s leg was found detached.
ASI Kashmir Singh of Ladhowal police station reached the spot and alerted the NHAI ambulance service. The ambulance arrived promptly and the bodies were pulled out of the mangled car before being shifted to the civil hospital.
Police said efforts are underway to establish the identity of the deceased and contact their families. The cause of the accident is being investigated.
